Campo de’ Fiori, however, also has a dark side: on the square, in fact, spectacular executions were held, among which stands out that of the monk and philosopher Giordano Bruno who, accused of heresy, was burned at the stake on February 17, 1600. An imposing and austere statue was erected in his honour in the centre of the square on June 9, 1889
