What you can expect

Our meeting point will be at one of Pontevedra's most iconic landmarks, in front of the Monument to the Heroes of Pontesampaio and the beautiful and stately tree-lined boulevard, surrounded by some of the administrative buildings that best represent the city's rebirth after being named the provincial capital.

We will continue the sightseeing tour to the essentials of Pontevedra, its impressive historic centre. The first thing we'll see is the Basilica of Santa Maria la Mayor, a symbol of the power of the seafarers' guild and the city's port power centuries ago. Next, we'll see the medieval ruins of what was once Galicia's great loading and unloading harbour.

Our tour continues along the banks of the beautiful Lérez River, where we'll enjoy the views of the Puente del Burgo, the oldest bridge in the city and around which today's Pontevedra emerged. After this, we'll arrive at one of everyone's favourite places, the Municipal Market. If Rias Baixas is known for anything, it's its gastronomy.

From here, we'll find some of the most charming squares in Pontevedra, all of them named after the old trades that took place there: Plaza da Pedreira, Plaza da Leña, and Plaza da Verdura. Of course, we can't leave behind the Plaza do Teucro, one of the most elegant squares in the city, full of local heraldry representing many of the great houses of yesteryear.

We'll then visit the Plaza de la Herrería, one of the largest, liveliest, and greenest squares in the city, where the Gothic convent of San Francisco presides over a beautiful garden of camellias.

We'll end our sightseeing tour with the Church of the Pilgrim, a symbol of the city and a meeting point for pilgrims on the Portuguese Way to Santiago.
