Visit the Snow House Village, open from late January to late February, and step into a fairy-tale landscape. Admire the tall snow houses, neatly arranged like a secret land of snow. Enter the snow houses to enjoy Japanese snacks and experience the unique winter style.
Visit the mini snow house and the snow house shrine on site. Enjoy fireworks and snow sculptures during the festival, which are full of fun.
Next, head to the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, the only place in the world where you can see wild Japanese snow monkeys swimming in hot springs. Watch as more than 150 monkeys play in the steaming hot springs and keep warm.
Take in the healing and precious scene. Admire the snow-covered valley in winter, which is magnificent and charming. The park requires about 25 minutes of walking, and it is recommended to wear non-slip shoes. Do not feed monkeys, please abide by the rules to appreciate the beauty of nature.
Continue to the Togakushi Shrine, a Reiki Shrine hidden in the cedar forest with a history of more than 2,000 years. Visit the most representative of the five shrines, Nakasha, Okusha, and Kuzuryusha, and enter the solemn and mysterious realm of the gods.
Walk along the approach to Oku-sha Shrine, lined with cedar trees and stone steps, making it an ideal route for photography and meditation.
Finally, visit the Zenko-ji Temple, a representative ancient temple in Nagano with a history of more than 1,400 years. Admire the main hall, a national treasure-level wooden building that houses one of the oldest Buddha statues in Japan.
Take the “Ordination Platform Tour,” where you can search for the key to paradise in the dark passage and experience a unique practice. There are also many Nagano delicacies and souvenirs around the temple, with both history and culture.
