Our tour offers a memorable day in one of Bavaria’s most scenic and unspoiled areas. For over five centuries, this stunning monastery has been home to Benedictine monks, continuing the traditions of hospitality and beer brewing that you can enjoy today.
On the scenic train journey through the Bavarian countryside, you will learn about Andechs’ rich history, from its origins as a castle for the Counts of Andechs and their captivating storey of rise, betrayal and downfall to its transformation in 1455 into a Benedictine monastery. The history and tradition plus the daily life of a monk in the monastery will also be explained.
Afterwards you can hike a medieval pilgrimage route with wonderful views of the countryside or take a bus if preferred and at the monastery, explore the stunning Baroque church, then relax in the beer hall or beer garden with a monk-brewed beer and locally sourced food.
There is also an optional extra to view the reopened baroque apothecary on a VR tour.
