Step into the living culture of the Mentawai people. Over five days you share daily life with the Sikerai family in their traditional uma longhouse, surrounded by lush forests of Siberut Island—directly bordering Siberut National Park.
This is not performance tourism. You eat with the tribe, work with the tribe, and spend nights in a traditional uma longhouse. Your guide Andrian—born and raised on Siberut Island, 4th-generation Mentawai native with 15 years on the island—guides from lived experience, not tourist scripts.
The 5-day duration gives you the best realistic opportunity to observe Sikerai healing practices naturally—not on demand, but as part of the community rhythm.
Daily Activities Include:
- Sago processing and forest resource gathering
- Hunting and fishing using traditional methods
- Preparation of traditional arrow poison (sago grub foraging)
- Forest walks and biodiversity observation
- Storytelling and elder wisdom in evenings
- Learn about Mentawai body markings—one of the world's oldest cultural tattoo traditions (heritage knowledge)
All activities are explained and demonstrated by your hosts. You participate in work alongside the community, not as a staged performance.
Fast Boat Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday from Muaro Padang (3-6 hours to Siberut).
