From Lombok: 2-Day Whale Shark Adventure in Saleh Bay, Sumbawa

Discover one of Indonesia's most extraordinary marine wildlife experiences on this 2-day, 1-night adventure from Lombok to Saleh Bay, Sumbawa. Travel across Lombok and Sumbawa with a total journey time of approximately 8–10 hours, including the ferry crossing from Kayangan Harbour to Poto Tano Harbour.

Please note that ferry schedules are subject to change, and waiting times may occur, especially during weekends, holidays, or busy travel periods. As a result, the total travel time may be longer than expected. However, the scenic overland journey and ferry crossing are all part of the adventure as you make your way to Labuan Jambu, the gateway to Saleh Bay.

The following morning, at around 4:00 AM, you'll board a traditional wooden boat and cruise to the local fishing platforms (bagang), where wild whale sharks are frequently spotted. As the sun rises over Saleh Bay, you'll have the unforgettable opportunity to snorkel alongside these gentle giants in their natural habitat—one of Indonesia's most remarkable marine wildlife encounters.

This tour is perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers looking to experience one of Indonesia's most iconic marine activities. Combining an overland journey, a ferry crossing, and an unforgettable whale shark encounter, this adventure offers a truly authentic and rewarding experience.

Important Information

Whale sharks are wild animals, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Based on historical observations, the chance of encountering whale sharks is approximately 80–90%. No refunds will be provided if whale sharks are not seen.

Travel time between Lombok and Labuan Jambu is approximately 8–10 hours depending on ferry schedules, weather, and traffic conditions. The itinerary may change due to operational requirements or sea conditions.

Transport is arranged based on group size:

  • 1–4 participants: Shared shuttle transport
  • 5–10 participants: Private vehicle transport

Vehicle types may include private cars, MPVs, vans, or minibuses depending on availability and group size.
