Begin in Piazza Grande, the heart of Locarno, surrounded by colourful arcades and cafés. Take a short stroll through the old alleys towards the Funicular Locarno–Orselina.
Take the funicular or walk up to the Madonna del Sasso, one of Ticino’s most beautiful pilgrimage sites, offering breathtaking views over Locarno and Lake Maggiore. Walk back down from the sanctuary through the forest path or take the funicular again.
Head towards the Locarno lakeside promenade (Lungolago Giuseppe Motta) — flat and full of flowers, palm trees, and mountain views. Just behind the promenade, you’ll find the Castello Visconteo, a 12th-century castle turned archaeological museum.
Walk briskly (or take a short bus ride) to end in Ascona, Locarno’s neighbouring village. Stroll along the Ascona Lungolago, lined with pastel buildings and lake cafés (included in 3-hour tour).
