The Niyodo River is famous for its crystal-clear waters, so pure they've earned the name “Niyodo Blue” — often called the last great clear stream of Japan. When sunlight hits the surface, the water glows in a breathtaking, almost otherworldly shade of cobalt blue, a colour you won't forget once you've seen it. Because you travel privately, you can access remote mountain areas that ordinary tourists rarely get to see, allowing you to fully take in this pristine, tranquil natural wonder. Kayaking along this crystal-clear stream is especially highly recommended.
All transport is by private car driven by the guide personally. This private, flexible style also opens the door to hidden scenic spots deep in the mountains that regular sightseeing simply can't reach.
For food, be sure to try Kochi's famous seared bonito, “katsuo no tataki” — the smoky aroma from being flame-seared over straw pairs beautifully with the rich flavour of the fresh fish, making it Kochi's signature dish. Another local speciality worth trying is Bakushu-gyu (“beer beef”), cattle raised over an extended fattening period on a unique fermented feed made with beer mash — the result is tender meat with a refined sweetness and depth of flavour. Enjoy these local delicacies alongside Kochi's wide variety of excellent sake.
If you're not a fan of raw fish, just let your guide know — there are delicious cooked fish dishes available too, as well as excellent meat dishes.
Depending on the season, enjoy fresh local fruits such as melons, buntan citrus, watermelon, pears, and mandarins while admiring Kochi's peaceful countryside scenery and taking memorable photographs.
