Description

For a change of pace from your usual breakfast company, head to the Singapore Zoo and add a curious crew of friendly orangutans to the mix. As you fill up on tropical fruits and hearty morning fare at the lodge-style Ah Meng Restaurant, the monkeys amble over from their habitat to say hello.

Rise and shine and head on over to the Singapore Zoo's Ah Meng Restaurant, a cosy and casual lodge-style eatery that's perfectly set within the jungle-like setting of the zoo. Check out the photographs of the restaurant's namesake, Ah Meng, on your way in—this beloved orangutan called the zoo home for nearly 40 years, and even met famous visitors like Prince Philip and Michael Jackson.

Fill up your plate at the buffet, which features western dishes along with local specialities. Sit down and enjoy the fresh air and greenery, and then watch as the tree-trunk drawbridge connecting the orangutan's free-range habitat to the restaurant area is lowered and these people-loving primates wander in to make an appearance.

What a amazing experience we sat right in front of the Orangutans. Their keepers interacted with us continuously throughout the show answering all our questions. It was absolutely a blast to be so close to these Devine creatures. The zoo on a whole is first class. It is a real credit to the workers. We had a one one with the cotton top tamarin and their keeper as we left the zoo. Again another thrill. Well done

The breakfast was surprisingly good, with a selection of Western, And various Asian cuisine. It was a lot of fun to be able to see the Orangutans up so closely. At our breakfast there were 3 young ones and a mother. You did feel a bit rushed when it was your turn to for a picture though, and the Orangutans are not sitting “posed” obviously like in the advertising pictures. In fact I think in our photos all but one is sitting either backwards or sideways. They feed them fruit during the photos so the are all just doing their own thing. You do however have tons of time to take other pictures on your own after. I enjoyed the experience.

Breakfast was cold and only 2 orangutangs came out - we could see them walking around the zoo without paying for a breakfast -plus you had to pay more if you wanted to feed them - zoo was nice but could have enjoyed it the same without the additional Charge also you had to pay for the photo
