Overview

  • One pass, eight Juneau audio tours — Mendenhall Glacier, Nugget Falls, Mount Roberts, the Perseverance Trail, the 70-mile scenic drive, and city centre — plus a quick 90-minute glacier-drive edition for short port days. One purchase plays from one phone for everyone with you. Written by a born-and-raised Southeast Alaskan; GPS triggers each storey automatically, hands-free.

To be clear: this is a self-guided app experience — no live guide, no paper ticket, no bus schedule. Download before you sail — everything works with zero cell service.

This is the Juneau the crowded bus tours skip — rainforest trails, gold-rush ruins, the bears at Steep Creek — for less than one seat on a bus tour. No date, no time limit, no expiry. Driving audio plays through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; transcripts in six languages.

Setup takes about 2 minutes — full steps are on your Viator ticket and in your confirmation email (check spam). In the app, your pass appears as “The Ultimate Juneau Experience.”

Activity itinerary

Mendenhall Glacier

  • 45m
Juneau's most famous sight, a glacier you can see right from the car park. As you arrive, a GPS-triggered audio storey plays automatically through your phone, covering the ice's dramatic retreat, the lake it carved, John Muir's 1879 visit, and the rock flour that turns the water that milky blue. Hands-free, at your own pace, fully offline.

Steep Creek

  • 20m
  • Admission ticket not included
A short loop near Mendenhall where, from July to October, black bears fish for salmon and eagles gather overhead. GPS-triggered audio plays as you walk, explaining the salmon run and the food web in motion. Free to access, explored at your own pace.

Nugget Falls

  • 45m
A short walk leads to Nugget Falls, where water plunges hundreds of feet from a river that is near the Mendenhall Glacier. GPS-triggered audio plays as you walk along the path to and from the falls, telling the storey of the glacier's retreat, the icebergs on the lake, and the Arctic terns overhead. No guide, no schedule — just press play and walk.

Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center

  • 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Trailhead hub for the East Glacier Loop hike (16 stops, incl. the granite power tunnel) and the Trail of Time walk (9 stops — stand where the ice reached in 1937).

Mount Roberts Trail

  • 2h
The hike locals actually do, climbing through rainforest above city centre Juneau. As you ascend, GPS-triggered audio shares the trail's gold-rush history, its rare ecosystem, and the priest who built the path. The tramway ride down is a separate paid ticket, not included in this audio tour.

Red Dog Saloon

  • 10m
A Juneau institution and a stop on the city centre walking tour. As you reach it, GPS-triggered audio plays the saloon's colourful history and the tale of the Wyatt Earp revolver that can't quite be Wyatt Earp's revolver. Listen on the street, hands-free — entry and any purchases inside are your own.

St. Nicholas Orthodox Church

  • 10m
A wooden Russian Orthodox church an Indigenous community paid for themselves in 1894 — and the reason why isn't the one you'd assume. GPS-triggered audio plays as you reach it, telling the real storey. Viewed from the street as part of the self-guided city centre tour; any interior visit is separate.

Alaska Governor’s Mansion

  • 5m
A stop on the city centre walking tour. GPS-triggered audio plays as you arrive, covering Juneau's improbable status as a capital no road can reach and the repeated failed attempts to move the government. Viewed from the public street, hands-free.

Perseverance National Recreation Trail

  • 3h
Perseverance trail tour (20 stops): the Glory Hole, the mine ruins, and the climb miners made before every shift.

National Shrine of St. Therese

  • 20m
Extended driving tour (42 stops): one of the area's most beautiful places, built one stone at a time.

DIPAC's Macaulay Salmon Hatchery

  • 20m
  • Admission ticket not included
A stop on the Juneau glacier driving tour where salmon return upstream. GPS-triggered audio explains the salmon cycle that powers all of Southeast Alaska. The hatchery's visitor area charges its own admission, which is not included in this audio tour.

Tongass National Forest (Pass by)

The largest temperate rainforest on the planet, surrounding the Juneau-to-Mendenhall corridor. GPS-triggered audio plays as you drive through, covering the forest, the wetlands, and the wildlife along the route.
