Overview

  • Turn Juneau's out-the-road scenic drive into a storey: 70 miles and 42 GPS stories that play automatically — glacier viewpoints, Eagle Beach, the Shrine of St. Therese, the Amalga ghost town, and the sunken Treadwell gold mine. Hear the Áakʼw Ḵwáan history, the wreck of the Princess Sophia, and the island that gave up millions in gold before the ocean swallowed it. One price covers everyone in the car; audio plays through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Bluetooth. Written by a born-and-raised Southeast Alaskan and fully offline — the dead zones don't matter.

To be clear: this is an app on your own phone, not a live guide — and the vehicle isn't included. Drive either direction, pause anywhere, finish any day — 2 to 4 hours at your pace, no date, no time limit, no expiry.

Setup takes about 2 minutes — full steps are on your Viator ticket and in your confirmation email (check spam). In the app, your tour appears as “Juneau Driving Extended Tour.”

Activity itinerary

Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center (Pass by)

Juneau's most famous sight, a glacier you can see right from the car park. As you arrive, a GPS-triggered audio storey plays automatically through your phone. You can explore the area and the audio tour will pick up as you head to the next stop!

National Shrine of St. Therese

  • 20m
One of the most beautiful locations in the Juneau area. Hear the storey of how it was built, one stone at a time. Explore this tranquil and scenic stop before heading to the next point of interest.

Eagle Beach

  • 30m
Eagle beach is a state park in Alaska. It often has the titular bald eagles on hand for some wildlife viewing. During the right season you can also spot spawning salmon and black bears.

DIPAC's Macaulay Salmon Hatchery

  • 20m
  • Admission ticket not included
A stop on the Juneau glacier driving tour where salmon return upstream. GPS-triggered audio explains the salmon cycle that powers all of Southeast Alaska. The hatchery's visitor area charges its own admission, which is not included in this audio tour.

Douglas (Pass by)

Visit the Treadwell mine ruins and see where the world's largest hard rock gold mine was located. Hear the storey of the tunnel collapse and find out whether anyone survived this massive mine tunnel collapse.
