Description

This picturesque circular tour takes you from Cape Town to the seaside town of Hermanus. The road makes its way through Sir Lowry’s Pass, a scenic mountain pass that crosses the Hottentots-Holland Range. At the start of the pass you can look back for a panoramic view at the low-lying area that stretches out towards Cape Town. Nestled between mountains and sea, the town of Hermanus is not only very beautiful but offers some of the best land-based whale watching opportunities in the world (August-November). Close sightings of the Southern Right whale are likely, as they come into the bay seeking sanctuary in the cold winter months. You will be taken on a panoramic drive along Rotary Way and will explore the heart and centre of Hermanus. You can also choose to enjoy a boat-based whale watching excursion (for own account) or tour the town.

On the drive back, we will continue to Bouchard Finlayson Wine Estate for a wine tasting on this prestigious vineyard. which presents further possibilities of whale (and even dolphin) sightings. On Sundays, a stop is made at Stony Point near Betty’s Bay to see the penguin colony (optional, for own account & time permitting). It also holds one of only two land-based penguin colonies in South Africa. You will be able to see these enthralling birds at play via a well-constructed wooden walkway. After a day exploring the charming towns and amazing marine life in Cape Town and surrounds, we will return to the Mother City.

Great experience. Everything in a day. The organizers booked also the whalewhatching boat tour for us, not included in the fee, we could choose if take part to it or not. After the boat tour time was left also to walk around in Hermanus. Very nice and well organized.

The tour is received was in German and not English so I didn't know what was going on most of the time. Once we got to Hermanus as I didn't want to go out on the boat and the rest of the group did I was left on my own for nearly 3 hours.
