What you can expect

Discover Scotland’s rich history and stunning landscapes on this West Highland adventure. Explore Doune Castle, see Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe, and visit Inveraray’s castle or historic jail. Soak up breathtaking views at Rest and Be Thankful before ending your journey in the charming village of Luss.

Leaving Edinburgh behind, we journey northwest into historic Stirlingshire, land of legendary Scottish warrior William Wallace. Our first stop is Doune, where you can explore Doune Castle, one of Scotland’s best-preserved medieval fortresses and a famous filming location for Outlander, Game of Thrones, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail*.

We continue west into the breathtaking landscapes of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, where towering mountains, shimmering lochs, and ancient castles await. Travelling through Campbell country, we admire the striking ruins of Kilchurn Castle, standing proudly on the shores of Loch Awe.

Reaching Loch Fyne, we pause for lunch in the charming town of Inveraray. Here, you can visit Inveraray Castle (open Thursday – Monday) or step back in time at Inveraray Jail, one of the world’s best-preserved courtrooms and prisons.

After lunch, we journey east, stopping at the iconic Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint, where the Arrochar Alps provide a stunning backdrop. Our final stop is the beautiful conservation village of Luss on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, before we return to Edinburgh in the evening.

There may be days that Doune Castle is closed for filming, in which case you will have longer to explore Inverary.*

Please note that in June 2025 at the listed dates, we will be visiting Linlithgow Palace instead of Doune Castle. Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and a filming location for Outlander, requires a local entry fee:*
