Join us for a unique, hands-on adventure as we guide you through our lush 1-acre apple banana tree collection, nestled in the heart of the Hawaiian rainforest on the east side of the Big Island. Our property, located on an 800-year-old lava flow, is home to 105 thriving apple banana trees, along with a diverse range of tropical plants.
During your tour, we'll share insights into our sustainable planting and cultivation techniques, explaining how we nurture these exceptional fruit-bearing trees. You'll have the opportunity to get your hands dirty by propagating live trees and closely examining the inner stem, where you'll discover the core, which is not only fascinating but also edible!
As we explore the banana grove, you'll witness the entire process of harvesting apple bananas directly from the trees. When a banana tree bears fruit, it must be cut down, and you'll have the chance to make the final cut yourself. After harvesting the bananas, you'll also learn how to cut and process the seeding flower, which is the first step in creating a new banana tree. It’s an immersive experience that combines agriculture, sustainability, and the joy of working with the land.
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a first-time visitor, this tour offers a hands-on, educational experience in one of the most beautiful and fertile environments in Hawaii.
