Learn about the history, architecture, and archaeological heritage of Cajamarca with this 2-day programme that combines a tour of the city's historic centre with a visit to the Cumbemayo Archaeological Complex.
Day 1 – Cajamarca Sightseeing Tour
Start by walking through Cajamarca's main historical attractions. Visit the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral of Santa Catalina de Alejandría, the Church of San Francisco, and the Ransom Room, one of the most iconic places in the city's history and in the encounter between Inca and Spanish cultures.
Continue to the Belén Complex, where you'll see the Church of Belén and the old colonial hospitals for men and women, now connected to museum spaces with archaeological and ethnographic collections. Finally, head to Santa Apolonia Hill to see its ancient ceremonial altars and enjoy a panoramic view of Cajamarca.
Day 2 – Cumbemayo Archaeological Complex
Depart from Cajamarca for one of the most unique archaeological sites in the region. Before arriving, you'll stop at the Bellavista Vantage Point to take in the scenery.
In Cumbemayo, you'll visit the Sanctuary and the Tunnel of Wishes and explore the Stone Forest, where rock formations create a distinctive landscape. During the tour, you'll see the Sacrifice Stone, ancient petroglyphs, the Megalithic Canal, the Rock Shelters, and the Ceremonial Altars, discovering part of the legacy of the ancient cultures of Cajamarca.
