What you can expect
From Tokyo, heading east, embark on a spring-limited sensory feast in Ibaraki. This journey will take you deep into the cherry blossom sanctuary of northern Kanto, where nature, culture, and modern design blend in a uniquely charming way.
First Stop: Rain Guide Kannon’s Thousand Cherry Trees — A Serene Sea of Blossoms at an Ancient Temple
Nestled on the slopes of Mount Amabiki, Rain Guide Kannon is a sacred ancient temple with over a thousand years of history. Each spring, the temple grounds are gently embraced by thousands of cherry trees, with Kawazu and Somei Yoshino varieties blooming in succession, forming layers of soft pink blossoms. Walking along the temple’s historic paths and courtyards, you can sense the tranquil Zen atmosphere while immersing yourself in the lively joy of spring flower viewing. More than just a famous cherry blossom spot, it is also a spiritual place for praying for safe childbirth and healthy growth, where historical heritage and natural beauty coexist in harmony.
Second Stop: Hitachi Cherry Blossom Festival — Strolling Through a Dreamlike Blossom Tunnel
Arriving in Hitachi City, you’ll be greeted by the grand Cherry Blossom Festival, selected as one of Japan’s “Top 100 Cherry Blossom Sites”. At the famous Heiwa-dori, cherry trees in full bloom line both sides of the kilometer-long street, weaving together into a dreamlike “cherry blossom tunnel.” You can freely wander beneath this soft pink canopy, feeling the petals dance and the spring breeze brush against your skin. During the festival, you may have the chance to witness up close the local intangible cultural heritage — the magnificent 15-meter-high festival float and the intricately designed traditional puppet show “Hitachi Furyūmono” — immersing yourself in the vibrant festive atmosphere.
Third Stop: Hitachi Glass Seaside Station — Encountering the Romantic Pacific Sunset
The highlight of the journey brings you to Hitachi Station, hailed as one of “Japan’s Most Beautiful Stations”. Designed by renowned architect Kazuyo Sejima, this glass station resembles a transparent gallery floating above the Pacific Ocean. With floor-to-ceiling glass panels inside and out, the vast ocean views are seamlessly brought before your eyes. Whether under clear blue skies or in the poetic haze before a storm, the ever-changing play of light and shadow here will conclude your day trip with a serene and romantic touch.
Journey’s End: Returning Home Full of Spring Colours
After admiring the sunset, we will begin our return journey to Tokyo. On the way, you can reflect on the tranquility of the ancient temple, the excitement of the cherry blossom festival, and the romance of the seaside station, allowing Ibaraki’s spring memories to become the most moving chapter of your travels. We look forward to meeting you on this unforgettable journey.
