Overview

  • Approved by the Bangladesh Tourism Board, Charubala Homestay offers an authentic way to experience rural Bangladesh. In peaceful Juri, rural life unfolds through family courtyards, shared meals, green tea gardens and greetings between neighbours.

Our 11-member Hindu joint family welcomes you into this rhythm, treating you as one of our own and helping you explore as a local for four days and three nights.

Ride a traditional pedal van through village lanes, enjoy food from our kitchen and sit with tea garden, Manipuri and Khasi families to hear their stories, traditions and ways of life. Walk through Patharia Hills, feel the mist at Madhabkunda Waterfall and, when the water allows, cross Hakaluki Haor in a wooden boat.

Charubala remains a simple rural home, not a hotel, so please do not expect luxury or hotel‑style facilities. Your stay involves local guides, drivers, cooks and hosts, so every shared meal, conversation and journey supports the people who welcome you.

Stop to meet neighbours and local residents, walk through the village and explore the market where people shop and gather. Return for an optional pond swim with a life jacket and supervision when conditions are safe. Join the family kitchen to prepare a local dish, then end the day together with dinner, conversation and cultural stories.

Juri

  • 12h
Start your second day with breakfast and visit a nearby tea garden and its community village. Meet tea garden families, observe their work and follow tea’s journey from plucking and processing to the people behind every cup. Learn about their traditions and taste cha-patar bhorta, a local dish made from tea leaves. Continue to a Manipuri village, where community members welcome you traditionally. Walk with a local host, meet residents and learn about daily life, language, clothing, festivals, handloom weaving and family customs. Share a traditional Manipuri lunch within the community. After lunch, visit a Khasi hill village. Learn about their matrilineal family system, where lineage traditionally follows the mother’s line. Discover their language, customs, forest-connected life and betel-leaf cultivation while spending time with residents. Return to Charubala Homestay for tea, rest and a home-cooked family dinner.

Day 3: A Day of Hiking, Waterfalls and Wetlands at Patharia Hills and Hakaluki Haor

  • 2 stops
  • Meals: breakfast, lunch, snacks
  • Accommodation: Travellers stay in our family home, enjoying authentic Bangladeshi hospitality, culture, and simple, comfortable lodging.

Madhabkunda Waterfall

  • 5h
  • Admission ticket included
Start your third day with breakfast at Charubala Homestay before travelling to Madhabkunda Eco Park, home to one of Bangladesh’s best-known natural waterfalls. Walk beneath green trees, listen to birds and follow the forest path towards your first view of the falls. Continue into the Patharia Hills with a community guide who knows the landscape and lives nearby. Follow a carefully chosen trail through tea gardens, forest paths and open hill scenery. Pause for photographs and hear stories about the land and surrounding communities. The route and pace may change according to the weather and travellers’ comfort. During the hike, stop for a simple lunch freshly prepared by local community members. Afterwards, return towards Madhabkunda Waterfall. If local rules, weather and water conditions permit, travellers may enter the water only in a designated safe area under the guide’s supervision. After time to rest and change, continue the journey towards Hakaluki Haor.

Hakaluki Haor

  • 5h
After exploring Madhabkunda, continue to Hakaluki Haor, one of Bangladesh’s largest and most important freshwater wetlands. Its character changes with the seasons: higher water creates wide, open views, while winter welcomes migratory birds to its quieter shallows. When water levels permit, put on your provided life jacket and board a traditional wooden boat. Glide across the peaceful wetland, passing floating plants, fishing areas and villages beside the water. Meet local fishermen and learn how surrounding communities depend on the haor for fishing, farming and seasonal livelihoods. Enjoy time for birdwatching and photography while respecting the wildlife and local way of life. As evening approaches, return to Charubala Homestay for a family dinner, shared stories and your third and final night. After breakfast the following morning, our family will offer you a warm farewell and gladly help arrange onward transport according to your travel plans.

Day 4: A Morning of Gratitude & A Warm Village Farewell

Charubala Homestay & Tours

  • 3h
After sharing three days of meals, stories, village paths and everyday moments with our family, your fourth morning at Charubala begins quietly. Wake to the familiar sounds of our rural home and join everyone around the table for one last home-cooked breakfast and cup of tea. There is time to remember the places you explored, exchange photographs and enjoy a little more laughter together. When it is time to leave, our family members will gather to help with your luggage and wish you a safe journey. We can also help arrange transport according to your onward travel plans. The journey may end here, but the memories we created together remain. A family in Juri will remember you warmly, and the door of Charubala Homestay will always be open whenever you return.
