Activity itinerary

Discover Armenia’s rich carpet-weaving traditions in our interactive workshop at Telik Handmade in Ijevan, Tavush Province. Your experience will begin with an introduction to Armenian carpet-making history, including the famous Ijevan rugs, the Soviet-era Haygorg factory, and the cultural significance of weaving in Tavush. Next, you’ll sit at a loom and learn how to weave a traditional “shulal” style carpet, guided by skilled local artisans. As you work, you’ll enjoy local stories, weaving traditions, and expert assistance from our team. Your creation will be a small woven piece (about 6x7-8cm) featuring Armenian ornaments, which you can turn into a bracelet, necklace, brooch, magnet, or coaster to take home. To complete the experience, you’ll enjoy some Armenian coffee or tea with local sweets, including “sali,” a Tavush speciality traditionally eaten during Vardavar, a water festival with pagan-roots. We’ll tell you all about these and other local traditions during your masterclass, connecting with Armenia’s weaving heritage while directly supporting local artisans.
