What you can expect

  • Pickup from Bhubaneswar city hotels, then visit famous city temples, including Parsurameswar, Mukteswar, and Rajarani. Let’s start with Parsurameswar temple.

Parsurameshwar Temple: The temple exemplifies early Odishan architecture, featuring intricate iconography and detailed depictions of Hindu deities and mythological scenes. It includes a sanctum, a mandapa (hall), and various elaborately carved motifs, highlighting the advanced artistry of the period. The Parsurameshwar Temple is a significant cultural and historical monument, reflecting the rich architectural and religious heritage of ancient Odisha.

Mukteswar Temple: Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is celebrated for its exquisite architecture and intricate carvings. Often referred to as the “Gem of Odisha architecture,” it showcases a blend of earlier and later styles, marking a transition in Odishan temple design. The temple features a beautifully carved torana (arched gateway), ornate sculptures, and detailed iconography depicting various deities and mythological themes.

Rajarani Temple: Known for its stunning architectural beauty, the temple is unique as it is not dedicated to any specific deity. Instead, it is renowned for its intricate carvings and sculptures. The temple features detailed depictions of celestial beings, mythological scenes, and ornate motifs. Its distinctive architectural style includes a richly decorated sanctum and a jagamohana (assembly hall). Often called the “love temple” due to its erotic sculptures, Rajarani Temple is a significant example of Kalinga architecture and a prominent cultural and historical landmark in Odisha.

Then drive to Puri. After reaching Puri you have lunch at a good restaurant. Then visit the famous Jagannath Temple.

Jagannath Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Vishnu. The temple is renowned for its massive size, architectural grandeur, and religious significance. It is a major pilgrimage site, particularly known for the annual Rath Yatra (chariot festival), where the deities are taken out in grand processions. The temple complex includes several smaller shrines and is an exemplary model of Kalinga architecture, characterised by its intricately carved towers and detailed sculptures. The Jagannath Temple is a key cultural and spiritual landmark, drawing millions of devotees and tourists from around the world.
Non-Hindus may only view the architecture from outside the temple.

Later, drive back to Bhubaneswar with fond memories of the tour.
