Overview

  • Discover a quieter and less-traveled side of the Cape on a guided mountain hike from the beautiful Harold Porter National Botanical Garden into the surrounding Kogelberg landscape. Unlike the busier trails around central Cape Town, this experience offers peaceful trails, dramatic mountain scenery, indigenous fynbos and spectacular views over Betty’s Bay and the coastline.

Led by an experienced local hiking guide, the tour combines a genuine mountain adventure with the incredible biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom. With a small group and a relaxed pace, there is plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, take photographs and experience one of the Western Cape’s hidden hiking gems.

Activity itinerary

Explore one of the most beautiful corners of the Cape on a guided hike through Harold Porter National Botanical Garden and into the surrounding Kogelberg landscape. Starting at the gardens, we’ll make our way through indigenous fynbos and mountain vegetation before climbing higher into the rugged terrain above Betty’s Bay. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views across the gardens, mountains and coastline while learning more about the unique flora and natural environment of the area. The hike covers approximately 8–9 km with around 450 m of elevation gain and takes roughly 4–5 hours, making it ideal for active travellers looking for something more adventurous than a walk through the botanical gardens. Expect beautiful mountain scenery, quiet trails, impressive viewpoints and a chance to experience this remarkable part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve on foot.
