10+ Hour Sinharaja Lion Rock Adventure
This full‑day adventure is created for hiking and adventure lovers who want to explore the most remote and untouched parts of the Sinharaja Rainforest. Guided by Akitha, an experienced local expert, you’ll follow deep jungle trails all the way to Lion Rock, one of the most impressive natural viewpoints in the reserve.
Unlike most areas of Sinharaja, where dense vegetation limits visibility, the summit of Lion Rock opens into wide, sweeping views across the untouched rainforest and surrounding hills. Many guides consider it the finest viewpoint in the entire reserve.
Sinharaja is Sri Lanka’s last remaining stretch of virgin primary tropical rainforest, estimated to be 160 million years old and protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its extraordinary biodiversity.
About the hike
The Lion Rock trek is widely regarded as one of the longest and most demanding hikes in Sinharaja.
The full route covers approximately 22 km and takes more than 10 hours to complete.
This tour is suitable for guests aged 16 to 65+ who are in good health and have a reasonable level of fitness.
Along the trail, we visit up to five waterfalls. At several of them, we take extended breaks so you can swim, relax, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before continuing deeper into the forest.
Hikers commonly encounter:
Sri Lankan Blue Magpie and other endemic birds
Purple‑faced langurs
Butterflies and dragonflies
Endemic reptiles and amphibians
Giant rainforest trees and medicinal plants
Sinharaja contains an exceptionally high concentration of species found nowhere else on Earth, making this trek a unique opportunity to experience true rainforest biodiversity.
