The Coromandel Coastal Walkway

  • Looking for spectacular scenery? The Coromandel Coastal Walkway is set in the remote north of the peninsula. Expect amazing views of the Pacific, Mount Moehau and Great Barrier Island.
  • The road to the Coastal Walkway is a bit wonky, so it's best to go with a local guide. If you time it right, you can catch a spectacular sunset.
  • Mountain bikers can cycle on a stretch of the Coastal Walkway. The track is steep, slippery and challenging, so this is best for advanced riders.

The Pinnacles

  • Set in the stunning Kauaeranga Valley, the Pinnacles are among New Zealand's hidden treasures. The eight-hour trek to the summit can be done as a one-day walk or an overnight adventure.
  • Beginners looking for a shorter walk can find a range of scenic trails in the Kauaeranga Valley.
  • Calling all thrill-seekers! Adventurous types should add canyoning in the Sleeping God Canyon to their itinerary. The scenery alone is bucket-list worthy.

Karangahake Gorge

  • The Karangahake Gorge is a perfect place for exploring. The historic gold mine has old tunnels, mining relics and epic views.
  • The gorge is one of New Zealand's easiest grade-one cycle trails, so it's popular with mountain bikers, too.
  • In addition to all the adventurous things to do, the Karangahake Gorge offers cool accommodations and fun homegrown experiences.
