Week stay in Jimbaran, Bali

Great location, great cottages, great pool and (as usual in Bali) great people. Excellent location on beach for sunsets and sea, but one of the best pools at a hotel you can get. Needs a little refreshing, but for the most established hotel in Jimbaran an excellent choice to stay, enjoy and recharge!

Overpriced old style cottages on the beach.

For $100 less per night I stayed in a Club room in Ayana Resort in Jimburan. That is a true 5 star resort. This one is a 4 star at best. When you charge over AUD$500 per night for a dark, airless Bure/cottage/cabin with no view and no private pool you are uncompetitive with what's now available in Bali. Yes it has beach frontage. There is one main pool. No spa pools. The staff can be pushy and occasionally unsmiling. The aircon is loud and not strong. Menus are old school. Furniture is dated. This hotel has changed management at least four times and needs a very major renovation. There weren't many guests, and they were mostly middle aged Europeans and a few Aussies. Unlike the Ayana, there were no Chinese, no Japanese, no Americans and my guess is that these travel agents won't risk sending their upmarket guests to this place. On the other hand, it's on the best part of Jimburan beach for surfing, so if they decided to lower their prices by 60% and compete for the youth travel market they might make some money and avoid spending on a massive renovation. The new management company is the same company, (Belmond), that now manages the Orient Express and the Flying Scotsman deluxe express trains. I hope they manage these heritage assets better than the aging Belmond Puri Bali Jimburan.

Renovations + Closures

In accordance with local regulations, all visitors must remain within the property during Seclusion Day (Nyepi)/Hindu New Year for a 24-hour period (starting at 6 AM). Seclusion Day typically falls in March or April (dates subject to change each year). Check-in and check-out will not be possible on that date. Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali International Airport) is also closed on Seclusion Day.
