Britomart Transport Centre

The modern facilities of Auckland’s major rail and bus hub extend elegantly from the picturesque architecture of a former Edwardian post office.

Begin your trip to Auckland or depart for a new adventure from Britomart Transport Centre, Auckland CBD’s major hub for public transit. The railway station and bus interchange provide a jumping-off point for a wide range of destinations around Auckland and beyond, while the adjacent Auckland Ferry Terminal connects the city to harbours around the region.

The Britomart Transport Centre is based within a magnificent Edwardian building once used as the city’s post office. Admire the building’s elegant façade, which is highlighted with atmospheric lighting in the evening. The building’s street frontage on Queen Elizabeth II Square provides an interchange for several bus routes. From here, you can connect to Auckland Airport, Albany and the Hibiscus Coast, as well as a variety of local and intercity destinations.

Enter the building to find a wide array of retailers. Grab a newspaper or magazine and relax in one of the Britomart Transport Centre cafés while you plan your next adventure or wait for your train. Take the escalator or elevator to the lower levels to reach the underground concourse and railway platforms. The Britomart Transport Centre’s five platforms connect Auckland to Swanson, Onehunga, Manukau and Papakura.

On the harbour side of Britomart Transport Centre is the Auckland Ferry Terminal, which provides ferry services to Devonport, Birkenhead and Half Moon Bay, as well as a selection of islands in the Hauraki Gulf.

Reach the Britomart Transport Centre on foot from Auckland CBD or by bus, train and ferry from other areas in the city and wider region. The station building is open daily from early in the morning until very late in the evening. Purchase your transport tickets online or from the ticket booths at the station. Park your car at the Britomart parking facility.

While in the area, be sure to check out the Britomart precinct. This buzzing area has a pedestrianised mall with a great range of boutique fashion retailers, cafés, restaurants and bars. Check out art galleries and on the weekends visit the local farmers market.
