Kings Cross
This Sydney ’hood has a colourful past with shady characters. Love it or hate it, there is no place like The Cross in all of Australia.
Kings Cross mixes run-down bars with ultra-trendy cafés, and tacky strip clubs with million-dollar Victorian houses. Backpackers and students rave about its cheap eats and pumping nightlife. What’s known here as ‘The Strip’ still shows the seedy side of Sydney by night, but if you visit the iconic El Alamein fountain by day or stay at the Potts Point end, you wouldn’t know Kings Cross was once Sydney’s most notorious district.
