Stanley

Find out why so many people are nuts about this small town on Tasmania's northwest coast. This historic port town is something special indeed.

Think of Stanley and you have to think of ‘The Nut’. No, it’s not one of those quirky Aussie Big Things you see along highways, but an impressive volcanic plug that rises up from the narrow strip of land on which this little port sits. It’s called Munatrik in the local Aboriginal language. The rock makes the perfect backdrop for Stanley’s colourful heritage buildings and railway station and the circular walk on the top is a highlight.
