    Pocket Guide: West Yorkshire

Looking for holiday to delight your senses? Yorkshire is a place that will always deliver. This North England region is blessed with a rich history and idyllic scenery to match. Our great range of Yorkshire accommodation offers the perfect base to explore this fascinating region- ranging from cheap and cheery hostels to secluded, welcoming B&B's through to top of the line 5* hotels styled in looming historical settings.

Exploring Yorkshire is easy with Hop On Hop Off tours available in most of Yorkshire. If you prefer countryside to civilisation, the Yorkshire Dales provide hiking and cycling opportunities to explore the some of the greenest scenery on offer- straight out of a picture book! Neither of those sound appealing? Indulge in some luxury and visit the Turkish baths of Harrogate or dine in one of the elegant restaurants that are spread throughout the region.

No visit to Yorkshire is complete without a trip to York. This city was born to tantalise the senses! Explore York’s grizzly history with a visit to York Dungeon, or catch up with few ghouls on one of the many ghost tours on offer to scare yourself silly.

Enjoy the rich Viking history of the area with a visit to the Jorvik Viking Centre and ride through a replica viking village (complete with the sounds and smells of the time) or even attend the Jorvik Viking Festival. Embrace the delicious chocolatier past of York and embark on the Discover York’s Chocolate Story and uncover the facts on the humble kitkat. These cobbled streets provide a number of special experiences and beautiful shops, so you could happily while away a few hours in beautiful York.

If nothing else is guaranteed, it is absolute fact that you will never go thirsty in Yorkshire. With a pub on every corner, the locals will happily provide great hospitality with a warm pint of ale and a traditional roast and Yorkshire pud. Once you are merry, celebrate the region at one of the festivals Yorkshire host, including the Leeds Waterfront Festival (June), Dales Festival of Food and Drink (July) and the Summer Festival in Harrogate (August).

Feeling more pious? Yorkshire is happy to accommodate, with a rich Christian history. Yorkshire contains some of the oldest and most beautiful Churches found in England. With the soul cleansed, attend to the body and head at the Leeds United Football club to cleanse the body and evoke some old school patriotic soccer pride. Just don’t call it soccer, in front a local!

If you’re visiting during the warmer months, head to Scarborough for a traditional seaside getaway, The Sea Life Centre and Marine Sanctuary makes a great day trip for the family, or if you were just chasing something a bit special for the day visit the Scarborough Castle and Rotunda Museum.
