New Zealand's Mangonui is located on the beautiful North Island, next to the curiously named Doubtless Bay. It is within easy reach of a number of pretty white sand beaches, and is a popular place to visit in the Northland region. An old fishing village, the history and heritage of the area is reflected in the diverse and charming architecture. Combining European and Maori styles, it is a real visual treat. With a wide range of activities, great local attractions, and a terrific assortment of places to eat and drink, Mangonui is a true slice of Kiwi paradise. Take a walk around the peaceful village and admire the various heritage buildings that are dotted around the area. You can also visit an ancient and imposing Maori fortress, Rangikapiti Pa, where you can enjoy the splendid picture-perfect views. Whilst there are several great beaches within easy reach of Mangonui, Coopers Bay is one of the closest. The sea is fairly tranquil and so great for swimming. The sandy shores offer relaxation galore, and there are several water sports for if you are feeling active. The pink sands at Cable Bay are bewitchingly beautiful, and you can join diving and fishing trips at the harbour. Snorkelling, sailing, and whale watching are also available. Mangonui Conservation Reserve allows you to see varied native flora and fauna.
The area's museums include the Vintage Museum and the Whaling Museum, and several art and handicraft shops add to the cultural vibe. The cute cafes are excellent for taking a break and watching the world go by, and the local fish and chip shop is legendary!
