The area was originally inhabited by the Chapwurrung Aboriginal tribe, with Europeans arriving in the first half of the 1800s. It was renamed after a town in the UK’s Scotland. The town was devastated by fire in the 1940s, so unfortunately there are very few of the original structures around the town today.
