Disliked: Amenities, property conditions & facilities
There is nothing nostalgic about the North Gregory Hotel. Built in the 1950s, the foyer area and bedrooms badly need updating. Our 'deluxe' room did not have a window. The west facing french doors with heavily frosted windows did not open. We relied on a very old, noisy air conditioner for ventilation. The shower curtain did not stop water flowing into the main bathroom area. No coat hangers, one door of the free standing lowboy could not be opened because of the bedside table. The three drawer chest of drawers was not lined so we had nowhere to put our clothes for a 2 night stay. We ended up staying one night and returning to the excellent Saltbush Retreat in Longreach. Winton badly needs to build or renovate modern accommodation if it hopes to attract tourists. If I was the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, I'd build a dozen Saltbush Retreat cabins onsite quick smart. They'd sellout for sure.
