The Moors is our family home in beautiful countryside in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is in an ideal location for families that love beach life being only 5 minutes by car from St Ives but is also a great spot for walkers and those interested in wildlife (resident badgers, foxes rabbits and stoats) or in a wild and ancient landscape dotted with remains of settlements, standing stones etc.
The Moors is a lovely granite built farmhouse style property which dates back to 1700 and was formerly a smelting works for the local tin mines.
It is set in four acres of grounds, which include garden areas and a pretty stream for paddling.
The house is set off road on the edge of moorland and the network of ‘tinners’ pathways enable visitors to walk for miles without encountering a road. Favourite walks include to Zennor on the north coast, stopping at the Tinners Arms pub (great crab sandwiches!) taking in ancient quoits, or to Roger's Tower, an 18th century folly on the site of an iron age settlement with spectacular 360 views over West Cornwall.
A shorter walk can be taken to Baker's Pit Nature Reserve. The former clay pit is now a small lake which is used by locals for 'wild swimming' during hot weather.
At night here it is quiet and dark, the peace interrupted only by the calls and activities of the local wildlife. The dark skies enable stargazers to enjoy the amazing spectacle of the constellations and Milky Way.
In the field adjoining the house we keep chickens, including our (not TOO loud) cockerel, Macbeth, so can usually supply you with fresh eggs.
We love our home and are delighted to be able to offer it to other families to enjoy during the summer when we are often away. We live in it for the rest of the year, so you will find all the usual family bits and pieces around for your comfort and enjoyment and we know that you will cherish and respect our home while you are here.
The house is comfortably furnished with a mix of long owned family pieces and a few more contemporary items and local art works. We believe you will find it feels friendly and welcoming.
The house has four bedrooms, one is a family room with a king size bed, a single bed and a single truckle bed that pulls out from underneath. The single beds are standard size and with good quality mattresses, so fine for adults as well as children.
You may be interested to know that there is a charming stable conversion near to the house that sleeps two and also allows one small dog, this might be useful for larger parties or where a couple need privacy from the rest of the party (grandparents often appreciate this!). This can be booked separately if available.
Check in/Change over Saturdays.
