Created mostly as a result of continual water erosion, Carnarvon Gorge stretches for 30 kilometres inside Carnarvon National Park. Being relatively easy to access, it's one of the most visited sites on the park, and has a huge range of diversity for every visitor. To really experience the National Park, bring a good pair of walking shoes and prepare to get your fill of the great outdoors. Walking is the best way to experience the park, but remember to look around - you'll miss everything if you put your head down and just follow the path!

The Moss Garden, about two or three hours into the park, is a beautiful natural garden formed by a continual stream of running water that supports ferns and mosses. With a waterfall as a backdrop, it's a great spot for a picnic lunch. Aboriginal rock art is best seen at the Art Gallery, where a big overhang has preserved many motifs from the region's Aborigines.

You will see many native Australian animals as you walk through the park. Echidnas and kangaroos are a common sight, but keep your eyes peeled and you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a platypus in the creeks. Take a night spotlighting tour and check out the different gliders that inhabit the area, or test your hand identifying some of the 180 species of birds that are known to inhabit the park.
