Melbourne revs up for Grand Prix

BRISBANE – 22 February 2012

Melbourne is gearing up for a busy Grand Prix this year with accommodation bookings set to top last years event, according to leading flights and accommodation website Wotif.com.

General Manager Wotif.com Brand, Megan Magill, said people have been eager to secure their accommodation early with bookings starting three months in advance.

“We’re already seeing strong numbers of people heading to Melbourne for the event, and they’re getting in early,” Ms Magill said.

“With big events like this, people realise accommodation can sell out quickly and they want to beat the late rush.”

Brisbane named in Australia's top three airports

Brisbane airport has been named Australia's third favourite in a recent travel survey by Wotif.com. 

The survey poll found Melbourne airport was the most popular for Aussies, followed closely by Sydney and Brisbane.

General Manager Wotif.com Megan Magill said it was not surprising Brisbane airport ranked highly.

"More than 16% of Aussies named Brisbane as their favourite airport, just behind Melbourne and Sydney," Ms Magill said.

"It's great to see that there's a development going into the terminals and parking facilities to give those travelling through Brisbane airport an even better experience," she said.

Melbourne airport has claimed the title of Australia's favourite airport in a recent travel survey by Wotif.com.

The poll found Melbourne airport was the most popular for Aussies, followed closely by Sydney and Brisbane.

General Manager Wotif.com Megan Magill said it was a close vote between Melbourne and Sydney airports.

"Twenty-nine percent of Aussies named Melbourne as their favourite airport, with Sydney coming in a close second with twenty-seven percent," Ms Magill said.

"Aussies love visiting Melbourne and the airport is quite compact and efficiently designed with good shopping, restaurants and bars, which make waiting for your flight a lot more enjoyable," she said.

Indonesia top booked Asian destination for Aussies

BRISBANE – 06 February 2012

Indonesia was the top booked Asian country for Aussie travellers in 2011, based on bookings made through leading accommodation website Wotif.com. Popular tourist hot spots Thailand and Hong Kong came in second and third respectively with Singapore taking fourth place.

General Manager Wotif.com Megan Magill said March and April were the most popular months for Aussies taking off on holidays to Asia. 

“According to our booking figures from last year a lot of Aussies head to Bali or Thailand in March and April,” Ms Magill said. 

“The winter months in Australia are also a popular time to travel to the warmer climates of South East Asia with lots of people going to places like Cambodia in August.”
