Team it with one of their delish homemade cakes (and take home some mango fudge for after).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pub meal<\/strong><br \/>\nYou\u2019ve gotta get ye to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandviewhotelbowen.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grandview Hotel Bowen<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Breakfast<\/strong><br \/>\nBeachside brekkie at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/merakiwhitsundays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meraki Whitsundays<\/a> \u2013 best teamed with a scenic walk and a dip in Horseshoe Bay.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meat pie?<\/strong><br \/>\nGo the Hugh Jackman special (hot and beefy \ud83d\ude09) or, on a Thursday, the amazing local prawn pies from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jochheimspies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jochheim\u2019s Pies<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lamington?<\/strong><br \/>\nJochheim\u2019s Pies again! We\u2019re lucky enough to have the treasure of coral reef right off the mainland beach. That\u2019s right, you don\u2019t need a boat or any expensive transfers \u2013 just strap on your snorkel and dive right in.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8838\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/stateless-www-wotif-com\/2019\/09\/b3f9432a-horseshoe-bay-2019-22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s something surprising about Bowen that most people don\u2019t know?<\/h2>\n<p>As above. Most people don\u2019t realise that just a couple of minutes off the A1 Bruce Highway, you can literally park, put on a snorkel and swim over a coral reef. Another surprise is how many beaches there are \u2013 we have more than eight within a 10-minute drive around town\u2026 even a clothing-optional beach!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 10px;\">What\u2019s Bowen\u2019s best-kept secret?<\/h2>\n<p>Murray Bay. Remember all those beaches I mentioned above? Most visitors will find Horseshoe Bay easily enough, but Murray Bay is a secret little wonder hidden on Cape Edgecumbe. Think palm-fringed, sandy shores, no crowds and, yep, straight off the sand, that fringing reef is just metres away. To get there, you can have an adventure and walk in from Rose Bay or Horseshoe Bay (for epic Insta-worthy views) or drive to the hidden beach track at the end of Murrays Bay Road.
