It\u2019s great for my family \u2013 my kids can play in the streets.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>What annual events or festivals should people visit Mittagong for?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Southern Highlands are home to one of Australia&#8217;s oldest floral festivals &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southern-highlands.com.au\/events\/tulip-time\">Tulip Time<\/a>, which has been operating continuously for 58 years. It\u2019s the region\u2019s flagship event, attracting more than 60,000 visitors every year for the two-week spring celebrations. Events include a street parade, a mile run, puppet workshops for the kids, and, of course, mass plantings of tulips, with over 75,000 planted in Corbett Gardens alone!<\/p>\n<p>We also have Australia\u2019s only pie festival \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southern-highlands.com.au\/events\/pietime\/pie-festival\">Pie Time<\/a>, every June.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.lemediavault.com\/images\/5d226adf55664cea11008654fe44f72c.jpeg\" width=\"600\" height=\"388\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The NSW Southern Highlands are famous for their gorgeous tulips.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>Where in Mittagong can you find the best&#8230;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">\u2022 Coffee?<\/h4>\n<p>The Shaggy Cow at 112 Main Street, Mittagong. It\u2019s award-winning, with excellent food and coffee, as well as a great local wine list.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">\u2022 Pub meal?<\/h4>\n<p>The Lion Rampant Hotel at 75 Main Street. Great food in a relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">\u2022 Breakfast?<\/h4>\n<p>Four Seasons Bistro at 24 Bowral Road. They specialise in delicious vegetarian, vegan, and raw food \u2013 yum!<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">\u2022 Meat pie?<\/h4>\n<p>Gumnut Patisserie on the corner of Cavendish and Dalton Streets. You have to try the award-wining Eden Pie \u2013 it\u2019s braised overnight in a special beer from the Eden Brewery across the road.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">\u2022 Lamington?<\/h4>\n<p>Chelsea Bakery at 2\/86-88 Main Street. Go for a bush walk along a historic railway line that takes you past coal mine cuttings and through an 84m rock tunnel. Or for something more relaxing, have a picnic at Lake Alexandra.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>What\u2019s something surprising about Mittagong that only locals know?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Mittagong is home to Australia\u2019s first tennis court. It was up for sale earlier this year but, unfortunately, it\u2019s already been snapped up.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>What\u2019s Mittagong\u2019s best-kept secret?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Mittagong is home to Australia\u2019s first ironworks \u2013 the Fitz Roy Ironworks, which opened in 1848. The closest one is the Big Potato, but it\u2019s a bit old and doesn\u2019t attract a lot of visitors.<\/p>\n<p>A Big Tulip would be an added attraction to our yearly and historic Tulip Time festival.
