It\u2019s State of Origin \u2013 when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wotif.com\/Queensland.d11184.Destination-Travel-Guides?brandcid=WOTIF-au.display.WOTIFINSIDER.JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU.generic&amp;utm_source=WOTIFINSIDER&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_content=all&amp;utm_campaign=JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QLD<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wotif.com\/New-South-Wales.d11165.Destination-Travel-Guides?brandcid=WOTIF-au.display.WOTIFINSIDER.JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU.generic&amp;utm_source=WOTIFINSIDER&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_content=all&amp;utm_campaign=JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NSW<\/a> battle it out to find out which state (or at least which 17 Rugby League players) reigns supreme.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a time of fierce competition, but the rivalry doesn\u2019t end when the series does. For you see, Queenslanders and New South Welshman are very different people every day of the year. I should know \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wotif.com\/vc\/blog\/queensland\/why-qld-is-better-than-nsw\/?brandcid=WOTIF-au.display.WOTIFINSIDER.JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU.generic&amp;utm_source=WOTIFINSIDER&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_content=all&amp;utm_campaign=JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I grew up dividing my life between the two states<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These differences influence every part of our lives, including how we holiday. So here, just for fun, are 10 things a Queenslander would NEVER say while on holiday.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>1. \u201cGee, it\u2019s hot today!\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>True story: One time going through security at New York\u2019s JFK Airport, I was pulled aside for an extra pat-down because I was wearing \u201ca suspicious amount of clothing\u201d. \u201cBut it\u2019s snowing!\u201d I exclaimed. The security agent shrugged. \u201cBut I\u2019m from Queensland!\u201d I wailed. They didn\u2019t get it. But my fellow Queenslanders do. We\u2019re a state full of beach snobs and we will not apologise.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>3. \u201cThese trains suck! I miss Queensland Rail.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of things to love about QLD, but the trains aren\u2019t one of them. Who wants to wait half an hour on a platform at Caboolture? Sure, I could <a href=\"http:\/\/cjspastries.com.au\/stores\/caboolture-24-hours\/?brandcid=WOTIF-au.display.WOTIFINSIDER.JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU.generic&amp;utm_source=WOTIFINSIDER&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_content=all&amp;utm_campaign=JUN-18-THINGS-QLDERS-NEVER-SAY-BLOG-AU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">go across the road to the 24\/7 bakery<\/a>, but there\u2019s a limit to how many cheese and spinach rolls I can eat in a day (that limit is five. It was amazing).<\/p>\n<p>On the upside, this makes public transport everywhere else in the world seem incredible. London\u2019s Tube has trains every two minutes \u2013 it feels like a miracle.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>4. \u201cEek! This place has some scary wildlife.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We come from the land of saltwater crocodiles, Irukandje jellyfish, box jellyfish, and blue-ringed octopi (not to mention all the sharks, snakes and spiders we share with the rest of Oz), so it takes a lot to scare us. Of course, we know the chances of encountering most of these creatures are incredibly slim, and that even if we did, they usually just want to be left alone. But that doesn\u2019t stop us talking them up, especially if we\u2019re travelling overseas. As far as the rest of the world knows, we\u2019re a state full of Crocodile Dundees\u00a0\ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.lemediavault.com\/images\/322ed4f13232a180ff0097eda031697e.jpeg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">I snapped this croc pic in Port Douglas. Or was it my parents\u2019 backyard?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>5. \u201cNo XXXX? I guess I\u2019ll have lemonade.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I don\u2019t mean to knock our state beer (although I will say that Great Northern is better \u2013 fight me). But when we Queenslanders put our minds to it, we can achieve anything, including drinking strange new beers. Truly\u00a0inspirational.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.lemediavault.com\/images\/833aca6e69d91d7af38010ec4eed447f.jpeg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drinking random beer in Portland. So brave.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>6. \u201cWhoa! I\u2019ve never seen a storm like this before.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Yes, you have. You see them every other day in QLD, especially in summer. We may not get snow (generally. It has happened), but we do get skies as black as onyx, lightning that threatens to tear the world apart, and hail the size of golf balls. Compared to that, anything else is a drizzle.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>7. \u201cThe people here are so friendly&#8230;\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019m not saying everyone outside of QLD is a jerk&#8230; but sometimes it feels like it, especially in a big city. It\u2019s a comparison thing. Even in Brisbane, people are usually chilled-out, friendly and keen for a chat. To a born-and-bred Queenslander, anything less than instant mateship can feel like a snub.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.lemediavault.com\/images\/41683f78884806b70856cced704d4d3e.jpeg\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Brisbane Wotif team. Have you ever seen such a friendly bunch of people?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>8. \u201cDaylight savings? I can take it or leave it.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Haha, nooo. Whether they\u2019re aching for more post-work surfing time or terrified the extra sunshine will ruin their curtains, every Queenslander I know has *very* strong feelings about daylight savings. Experiencing it first-hand by travelling only reinforces them.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>9. \u201cI miss cane toads.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Nooooope. Unless we\u2019re talking about football players here (and you know we\u2019re not), no-one has ever said this. Your first time going out barefoot at night WITHOUT having to worry about gross toady landmines is a revelation. It\u2019s enough to cure any homesickness \u2013 at least for the night.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>10. \u201cThis AFL\/soccer\/gridiron game is so exciting! Who needs Rugby League?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Yeeeeah, no. No Queenslander has ever said this. Especially not during State of Origin.
