Why we love these amazing Victorian getaways

For some holidays, your accommodation is just a base: a place to rest your weary head after a day of travel adventures. For other getaways, your digs are the destination.

Case in point, these pretty damn fabulous hotels that call Regional Victoria home. Whether you’re a Melbourne local looking to escape the big smoke or an interstate visitor wanting to taste more of what Victoria has to offer, these special spots are for you.

Lake House, Daylesford
Why we love it: What’s not to love about the tranquil retreat set on six acres of stunning gardens, including a kitchen garden put to good use by the renowned restaurant, overseen by co-owner and Culinary Director, Alla Wolf-Tasker. Daylesford is pamper heaven and you won’t be disappointed by the onsite spa. That is if you can drag yourself away from your fancy digs, including ‘The Retreat’, a secluded luxury country house and waterfront suites.

And if you don’t want to take our word for it, their winning two hats in The Age Good Food Guide, the Hall of Fame in Gourmet Traveller’s Wine List of the Year Awards and the Condé Nast Gold List should convince you.

Chateau Yering Historic House Hotel
Why we love it:
Located in the heart of the Yarra Valley, this historic homestead has been brought to life as luxury accommodation in regional Victoria. Just a 50-minute drive from Melbourne, you’ll be getting cosy in front of one of the guest lounge open fires before you know it and soaking up the beautiful country views from your individually decorated suite. Be sure to enjoy the traditional high tea on a Sunday, while a meal at the onsite Eleanor’s Restaurant is a must whichever nights you visit.

Lakeside Villas at Crittenden Estate
Why we love it: They had us at Vineyard Estate. Located on the grounds of Crittenden Estate – home to handcrafted small batch wines – it’s hard to beat the relaxing vibes of staying at a winery. The self-contained villas sit over the vineyard lake, giving the feeling of floating among the vines. Being a small family run business, it’s all about the little touches including a chilled bottle of wine on arrival and breakfast supplies for your first morning. And just think how good a cheeky wine tasting followed by a long lunch at the onsite Stillwater Restaurant will be when you just have a short stroll back to your accommodation.

Ballarat Premier Apartments
Why we love it: If you like your apartments stay with a touch of glamour, this one’s for you. Originally built in 1901, the Ballarat Premier Apartments have been restored to combine the classic beauty of Victorian architecture with the luxe touches you’d expect of any modern hotel. The ‘premier signature suite’ – with its high ceiling, impressive chandelier, fireplace and double doors that open onto a balcony with picture perfect views over Ballarat – is our pick.

Hepburn at Hepburn
Why we love it: Designed by award-winning architect David Edeman, these luxe one-bedroom villas are the stuff of luxe lovers dreams. And if that’s not enough, you’re a mere 50 metres from the historic Hepburn Bathhouse for a rejuvenating spa treatment. Yes please!
