What you can expect

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp is only a 1-hour drive from Berlin. It was built in the summer of 1936 and served as a prison for more than 200,000 people between 1936 and 1945. Thousands of people died in Sachsenhausen of starvation, disease, forced labour and mistreatment or were victims of the systematic extermination operations of the SS.
After World War II, the former concentration camp was used as a special camp by the Soviet secret service.
Since 1993, Sachsenhausen is a museum, a memorial and a place for mourning to bring its history closer to visitors.
