Description

Get to know a living tradition of the Maori people with a lively demonstration of New Zealand’s most celebrated dance. This visit to the Auckland Museum gives you a look at an interpretation of the haka, one of the most famous and evocative pieces of performing arts on the islands.

With the blessing of the local Ngati Whatua people, the museum's programming is designed to give you a sense of how Maori customs originated, developed, and endured. Watch a thrilling rendition of the famed ceremonial dance that has long been a fixture of New Zealand culture, with a blend of posturing, vigorous movement, and rhythmic exclamation resulting in a riveting spectacle.

After the performance, you have time to meet and talk with the performers to learn more about their art first hand. You're also free to explore the museum itself, with general admission that gives you access to its stories of the city, the country of New Zealand, and their place in the Pacific region. See tales of the people, their natural environments, their exploration of land and water, and their legacy of creating New Zealand's unique culture, along with a collection of Maori treasures.

The Maori guide was very knowledgeable and personalized the tour giving experiences from her own family. The cultural center tour also included seeing the geysers and mud pools along with an excellent lunch. I would recommend the tour.

It was cool. Very sympathetic people doing the performance. It just felt quite short, the video integration could have been done bette rand the photo session afterwards was in a bleak hallway instead of with a cool background.
