What you can expect

Lake Cave is a stunning pristine treasure chest, deep beneath the earth; one of the most beautiful and iconic limestone caves in Western Australia. Inside the cave a tranquil lake reflects delicate formations that will take your breath away. Marvel at the unique 'Suspended Table' formation; a spectacular crystal decoration weighing several tonnes that hangs from the ceiling, almost touching the clear waters of the lake.

Visitors descend a staircase back through time, with access being through a spectacular doline (sink hole), gazing up at the towering karri trees from the floor of the sunken forest.

During a guided tour you'll see delicate crystal straws reflected in the water, with droplets of the last year’s rainfall hanging from the tips of straws and stalactites - a sign that the formations are growing. This is the most 'actively dripping' cave in the southwest, and the only cave on the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge that has a permanent lake.

Once back above ground, admire the views from the Lake Cave Deck, a spectacular viewing platform in the treetops. The deck is built from beautiful local timbers and features incredible glass portholes with views through to the cavern below.

There is an interpretative centre on-site, designed to help you learn about the formation and history of caves within the region, throughout Australia and around the world.
