per adult Price is AU$139

Rise before dawn and travel to Uluru, the famed monolith of the Red Centre, to catch the spectacular hues of the sunrise over the outback landscape. Warm up with a hot drink then trek around the base, learning about the tale of the Lungkata and the significance of the mala (hare-wallaby) as you go.

From your hotel, head across the rugged terrain to Talinguru Nyakunytjaku – this viewing platform is the perfect location for taking in the dramatic sunrise from Uluru, also known as Ayer's Rock. Watch the sky brighten and cast the red sandstone in shifting shades of ochre as you enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with biscuits.

With the trail now illuminated in the light of day, embark on your walking tour around Uluru's base at the sacred Aboriginal site of Kuniya Piti. Hear the legends and history of the Anangu people and pass by native flora like bloodwood eucalyptus. Your guide shares the importance of the mala hare-wallaby, a species recently reintroduced to the area – the Anangu believe that the Mala Tjukurpa are ancestral beings that watch over them, and they are celebrated in ceremony, song, dance and art.

Admire Aboriginal rock paintings at the Mutitjulu Waterhole, and listen to the Tjukurpa tale of the Lungkata, a blue-tongued lizard man. Stop at the majestic Kantju Gorge, where rainwater cascades and tumbles down 295 feet (90 m) onto giant boulders below, before returning to your coach to leave Uluru and its fascinating history behind.

Experience was amazing. Not for the unfit or anyone unused to walking in the heat. A must is buy a head net for the flies. We were advised to bring 1.5 litres of water but be aware there’s only 1 toilet stop available...also on our Expedia voucher it gave us a pick up time one hour before actual pick up time. An hour extra in bed at 4am would have been appreciated! Also the Expedia description made it sound 1 hour more than the trip actually lasts.
