Description

Leave the lines behind and head right inside to discover a 14th-century treasure of Venice, the Doge's Palace. Let an expert guide introduce you to the structure's glorious history and storied features, from chambers that housed powerful senates and councils to the infamous Bridge of Sighs.

Meet for your tour in the gardens next to St. Mark's Square, and start with a historical overview as you walk over to the Doge's Palace, an impressive Venetian Gothic structure that served as the residence for the Doge of Venice during the former Republic of Venice. After admiring the ornate exterior, enter the palace and stand in its central courtyard to admire the grand Giants' Staircase, flanked by massive statues of Neptune and Mars.

From here, you head to the upper floors, climbing the gilded Golden Staircase to reach the lavish Doge's apartments. Then, step into the Institutional Chambers, in which powerful doges, merchants, and aristocrats decided the course of the city's future. Gaze upon the magnificence of the Chamber of the Great Council, one of the largest rooms in Europe.

Afterward, your guide leads you across the Bridge of Sighs, which was constructed to link the palace to the New Prison at the turn of the 17th century. As you survey the view that represented condemned prisoners' last look at freedom, learn how the bridge received its famous name. Wrap up your tour back in the courtyard, and if you like, spend some extra time in the palace on your own.

Great tour with a very funny guide. He kept everyone engaged and made it interesting. We learned a lot on this tour. The only thing is that you’d have to go to the ticket window where they sell Alilaguna tickets to get your passes. It was not clear when we got there because the guide was late.

The guide, not sure of her name, was awesome! Very informative and thoughtful of the fact that we had three children with us. The issue we encountered was at the meeting place. We arrived one hour prior to our start time and were issued the wrong tickets, which meant that just about 10 minutes before our tour was set to begin, they were scrambling to fix the problem and reissue tickets to us. This meant that everyone a part of our tour had to wait for us. There was no apology and on their part and it was almost like we were causing them trouble, when they took our online tickets and issued us tickets to a completely different tour (I believe it was a boat tour instead). Also, the meeting point described on Expedia was incorrect so we spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out the right place (but still got there one hour prior to our arranged tour time)

Great tour, the palace is a must see. We thought about touring it on our own but having an English speaking guide was well worth it. Only down side was that it was HOT inside (July), silly me, I thought it might be cool inside! There is also a "secrets of the palace" tour that I wise we had time to do too.
