Just across the Yangon River from the centre of Myanmar's largest city, you can find a wonderful mixture of sights in the bustling township of Dala. This half-day tour takes you to lively markets, Buddhist temples, and grand monuments for a unique look at Burmese life.

A ride from your hotel brings you to the riverbank on the outskirts of Yangon, where a ferry carries you across the water. When you arrive in Dala, join the rush of the crowd as commuters mingle with vendors and hawkers who carry an assortment of snacks in trays perched on their heads.

Once a rickshaw takes you along the waterfront and through tree-shaded lanes, ride through the countryside to the Baung Daw Gyoke Pagoda. See pythons hanging in tangled knots from the windows and slithering around the statues, and then take a short walk to see the Chinese pond to see designs of Confucian statues, owls, deer, and golden lions with heads that look like monkeys.

Finish your visit with a look at the unusual Indian-inspired pagodas and stupas, plus a stop at the 1,000 Buddhas, a replica of the famous site at Monywa, before you head back to Yangon and your hotel.

It turn out to be just myself on the tour and I had the most lovely guide Win who took such great care of me and had such a good knowledge of the Dala region. What touched me the most was the beautifull people who live in such poor conditions. I also really like the snake temple.

Mr Myint Naing friendly, knew the area well and organised the tour very well. From the moment we got on the ferry everything was arranged. Rickshaws took us to a fishing village, rice paper and candle "factories", local markets, the 1,00 Bhuddas and trees and finally to Bhudda's Temple of Enlightenment where there are pythons throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed the time and it represents good value for money Geoff (Australia)
