Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science

This family-oriented attraction has a hands-on approach to science, nature, astronomy and technology.

The Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium has a range of exhibits suitable for all ages. It’s an affordable, fun and educational attraction, which makes it a popular day out for families. The complex hosts regular demonstrations and events, including the light display held in the Rooftop Observatory during the evening on the first Friday of every month.

Allow a few hours to see the museum and planetarium, which are spread throughout several buildings. The entry price includes admission to all museum galleries, planetarium shows, the Wildlife Center and demonstrations held throughout the day. Check the museum’s website, or at the museum entrance, for a schedule of demonstrations. These include the chance to transform yourself into a human yoyo in the outdoor Energy Garden; you’ll be launched 10 feet (three meters) into the air.

In the Heart Zone, demonstrate your hula-hoop skills and discover the benefits exercise has on your health. Step out on to the interactive dance floor and make some moves; the energy you use is converted into the electricity that lights up the room. Learn about the rehabilitation of raptors in the Falcon Batchelor Bird of Prey Center and dare to touch an alligator and other reptiles in the Wildlife Center.

Gaze up at the stars in the planetarium and learn why Pluto has lost its status as a planet. Through stories from Greek mythology and animated laser imagery your children will learn to identify the stars and planets in the real sky.

The museum and planetarium are located in the Vizcaya complex just south of downtown Miami. They are open every day, except Christmas and Thanksgiving days.
