Lovely Staff that are always happy to help! Tidy room, walls had a few knocks and marks around the place but nothing to really complain about. There is Elevator upgrades going on until the end of 2018 which meant that getting up and down from lobby to room took longer than usual, but nothing major. Would stay again

Well located but showing its age.

The hotel was having its lifts renovated so only 1 lift to enable guests to access many floors. Chaos resulted with guests desparate to get into overcrowded lifts. A poor attitude from staff to this major annoyance to guests. Also breakfasts are expensive and quite ordinary. We are unlikely to stay there again.

The Hotel was ok, I was comfortable and happy, but it was not as good as hotels i have stayed in in the past. The bathroom was a bit run down and looked like it needed a good clean, roof and grout around tiltes needs fixing/cleaning roof coming apart and shower head really dirty and old looking..Also rubbish bin did not suit the room and was too big. I am a professional art installer and the art was hung too high, mirror and tv placed in the room was also a bit weird and not how I would do it. But as I said I would recommend to others but tell them these suggestion. Thanks

Wonderful staff and a great location but the hotel is tired and well past its best. At one stage neither of the lifts were working meaning guests had to be escorted through the inner passages of the hotel to access their room. I guess it's to be expected for an old hotel - but disappointing at the price.

Although it was noted on your site that there was a lift under maintenance we were disappointed with our stay due to the the internet connection dropping out every few second which resulted in us unable to carry out any work related emails or work during our stay. When I pointed out the problem to the Duty Manager he was most proactive asking to enter our room to reboot the system which didn't improve the situation. He then proceeded to contact their central internet provider to again reboot the system which only improved for a short time. I have communicated with the management of the Hotel four days ago but have not had a reply at this point. Therefore, at this stage we do not intend to stay at the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor again unless we receive communications from the management that will change our views of our stay

Considerate and friendly staff.

Pros: I know the staff and they always recognize me as a frequent stayer. Also I am a keen gym junkie and appreciate the hotel gym.
Cons: Perhaps a free pass to the a gym with a pool as I have to practice my swimming. hurry up whoever is servicing the lifts to Lambton Key!
Location: Very handy for my research as I can get down to national Library and Archives NZ fairly easily.
We were down to commemorate our recently deceased son's life and we were very pleased that my family were given adjoining rooms with a cot for my youngest son and his wife for their baby daughter.
