First disappointment was that on 27th December Christmas seemed to be over as the Christmas tree and decorations had been removed.
Breakfast on the first morning was very disappointing. The full English should have included two rashers of bacon and a pork sausage. Mine had two strips of streaky bacon which looked and tasted as if they could previously have been wrapped around the turkey. The sausage was four tiny cocktail sausages which had been squeezed together to resemble a very thin chipolata. My complaint to the waiter got the reply that they had to use stuff up and only had streaky bacon. My wife pointed out that her chair was very badly stained and was told it would be cleaned that day but it was still the same throughout our stay. By 9.15 am there were no juices, yoghurts or pastries left. There were cups but we had to ask for saucers. There were no condiments on the tables.
Our hospitality tray was not refreshed and we returned quite late at night to find we had no mugs, glasses, tea bags etc. This was rectified by a member of staff after I had phoned reception. We were only given glasses in our room on one of the three days.
Outside the main entrance was littered with cigarette ends - 10 minutes with a sweeping brush could have removed this eyesore.
We had visited this hotel two weeks previously and came away with a positive opinion on that occasion of cheerful and welcoming staff. Why was it so different on our second visit?
