GETTING AROUND

Taupō is centrally located in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand, about 3 ½ hours’ drive from Auckland and 4 ½ hours’ drive from Wellington. Taupō is within a two-hour drive of Waitomo Caves to the west, Hamilton to the north, Tauranga to the east and Ruapehu to the south.

The intercity bus stop is in the centre of Taupo town. An easy 5 minute walk to the information centre known as the i-site. From there you can get a ride on the Taupo Hot Bus to Huka Falls and other attractions in the area. Huka Falls is 5 minutes drive north of Taupo.

There are three coach services available to and from Taupo many times a day to explore most tourist hotspots throughout the North Island.

✧ By Train & Ferry
Train & ferry transport options are ideal for independent travelers to Taupo. Inter-island ferry services and scenic south Island rail journeys are available to explore around Taupo.

There are aircrafts, private jets, and parachute drop zone available at the Taupo Airport. Other attractions and activities offered by Taupo Airport include skydiving and scenic flights in and around Taupo.
