Its a beautiful hotel! The staff are wonderful. The restaurant is good. We stay here in the Dame Nellie Suite and love it every time.

We arrived in the late afternoon, had to check in via the sports bar with an employee who never checked people in before. The manager was very friendly but kept having to rush off to serve plates to the dining guests. After awhile, we were able to check in and got told parking was available via the council carpark only so we parked there and decided to eat at the hotel. Our first drinks order was forgotten and they had to come over to us after an hour while waiting for food to ask if we got our food yet. I’d recommend staying mid week and not on a public holiday or weekend to avoid understaffing issues.
The Shamrock was once a high-class hotel: we stayed there 15 years ago and found it generally lived up to expectations of such a hotel. Sadly, it is no longer a high-class hotel. The wait staff were very good; several of the reception staff were excellent. One reception staff gave very confused directions about parking, getting from the carpark back to the hotel. It was unbelievable that reception did not open until 9am. A hotel! We are expected to leave at 10am but the reception desk was not open before 9am. There was confusion over parking fees: I still don't know whether I was overcharged, but it seems there is a charge for the parking voucher. I would think that a voucher just reduces the cost. Unclear! Our room was very comfortable except for the bathroom: the glass door to bathroom didn't close properly and it provided no privacy. Restaurant meal was average.
