Good location but needs updating

Hotel is in great location with very short walk to centre of town. Rooms need updating. Also tried to get room service but message kept saying, after several attempts can't take your call at this time!! Checking in took ages as they appeared to be short staffed

Lakeside view

Pros: As above
Cons: The sheer white window curtains were in need of a wash but that was my only concern about service delivery at the Hotel.
Location: Queenstown is a wonderful place to take a break. We were there to attend an extraordinarily professional show by music artist Grace Jones
I loved the interior design of the hotel foyer. We enjoyed sipping tea on the balcony of our room with a beautiful view of Lake Wakatipu. It was refreshing to deal with multi-ethnic staff who were all friendly and helpful. Best wishes to the Rydges for a wonderful 2018.

Disappointing and overpriced

Pros: The view, comfortable bed, the staff were always pleasant & polite
Cons: Housekeeping correct information on booking confirmation( re: parking) new tiles on bathroom floor
Location: Great place Queenstown lots to see.
FAIL We booked at Rydges because the booking included free parking, at check in I asked where was our carpark to be told I had to pay $15 per night, when I checked my booking confirmation I showed them I had free parking so then I was told it would be free but there were only about 20 places for a huge motel & it was full. So we had to find a park on the street which was extremely hard to find a spot. FAIL Stained Bathroom floor, made it looked like it hadn't been cleaned. FAIL We returned to our room about 3.30pm to find room service hadn't been. The housekeeping staff were in the about 2 rooms away so I asked how long they would be & they said about 40 minutes til they could clean our room, we were tired & wanting a rest, so we had to wait. It took almost 2 hours and 2 Phone calls to reception. when they arrived they went to hand me a roll of toilet paper & some towells, I had to asked for the bed to be made, clean glasses & have the toilet cleaned, it took them 7 minutes. The next days clean the bed was made but the toilet was not cleaned. (no toilet brush Provided). Very disappointing Rydges Christchurch We have stayed with Rydges in Australia & had no problem

Great location but rooms are too worn down

The hotel is beautifully located right next to lake Wakatipu away from the crowded town center, yet within walking distance of it. The room had a nice view, but the balcony wasn't private and was shared with plenty of other adjacent rooms and dining area. Though some other floors had private balconies, so check this before you book. The hotel must have been constructed ages ago as the room was too worn down, had a strong damp smell and the paint was coming off on the edges. The bathroom was also a little weird and had no ventilation, plus the carpet area near bathroom entrance was damp as well - this must have accounted for the smell. The walls are also quite thin, so it keeps you entertained/annoyed in case you run out of music/TV ;). Having said that, the bed was really comfortable and we slept really well! The staff weren't too pleasant upon our check in though and this was the first hotel in our entire journey that said that a travel card wasn't a recognized mode of payment, and yet we got charged on our travel card!!

in need of redecorating

The room was in need of redecorating. There was a lot of chipped and scraped woodwork in the corridor and the bedroom and the bathroom was tired. It is such a pity as the room has stunning lake views and the restaurant was great, but the room detracts from these positives

Would have been a nice hotel... in the 80s

Pros: Location
Cons: Needs a refurb, staff could have been more onto it.
Good location, but it looks like the decor hasn't been updated for decades. Shower over a plastic bath, and the bath had been damaged (and poorly repaired). Check-in was painfully slow. Room rate was reasonable in comparison with other hotels at the time of booking, but very expensive in comparison to other cities. I've stayed in much nicer hotels (e.g. Shangri-la, Four Seasons) in Sydney for less than this place cost.

Very convenient location and awesome views across

Pros: Location, very short walk to main part of town
Cons: Apdate rooms on level 2? Some pot plants or planter boxes out on landing area in front of level 2 rooms (it's just a big boring concrete area)
Location: Awesome, lakefront, walkway on doorstep of Hotel👍
We had a room on second floor, was clean and tidy but very dated. But for the price of it was ok as there are a lot of over priced Hotels in Queenstown so was value for money. Staff are very friendly and helpful, recommend buffet breakfast as it is just huge 👍
