Accommodation In Phitsanulok

Halfway between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok is the perfect place to experience a real Thai city and explore the ancient Thai capital of Sukhothai. Find a great deal on Phitsanulok accommodation and visit on your next trip to Thailand.

The birthplace of King Naresuan and once the capital city of Thailand, there are a number of hidden gems to explore in the city. The Sergeant-Major Dr. Thawee Buranakhet Folklore Museum is a must see on every itinerary. Filled with charming exhibits in a traditionally designed Thai building, this private museum showcases a huge collection of Thai artifacts, agricultural and fishing equipment. You can explore a typical wooden classroom where students were actually taught, as well as peek into an old-style Thai house, check out the kitchen and living quarters and wander the beautiful gardens.

One of the oldest temples in Phitsanulok is Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat (also knot as Wat Yai, or The Big Temple), which was built in the 1300s and remains a symbol for the entire city. It is most well-known for housing the most famous gilded gold Buddha statue in Thailand, and beautifully ornate temple doors. Once you have seen inside the temple, check out the museum just next door, which has an excellent collection of Thai artwork.

The unique Buranathai Buddha Foundry makes hundreds of bronze Buddha statues every year. Come and see how they cast the statues, as it's fascinating to watch the best craftsmen demonstrate the entire process for you. Finish off your day with a trip to the Night Market, where there are many great local restaurants or simply grab some "Moo Ping" (pork sticks) and munch while you browse the stalls. There are endless handicrafts on offer as well as a huge range of cheap clothing, jeans, bags and belts. The best finds usually come from the sellers who set up a rug on the sidewalk; you're sure to find a unique souvenir!

Choose from a range of great Phitsanulok hotels and resorts and flights to Bangkok and you will have a fantastic base to explore the local area, while enjoying a town that doesn't see masses of tourists. A unique experience for every traveller, come visit and see for yourself!
